An Inside Look at Erika S. and why she loves juicing.
posted by Erika Smith

How did you become a barreTech.?
I've always been an enthusiast for health and fitness. I never was really big on going to the gym and working out on my own; I needed and loved the support and direction of exercise classes of all different types. Kickboxing, yoga, zumba, and cycling are a few of my favs! I heard of barre when a friend asked me to join her for a class at BARRE TECH., and I was hooked instantly. I started to do work-study in exchange for classes shortly after. After falling more and more in love with the concept and vibe of the studio, I decided to take my #barrelove one plie further and become an instructor.  I've been teaching now for four months, and I love it more with every class!
What do you love about barre?
The results!! Best workout to lift and tone all over!
What is your go-to brand/store/style of workout gear?
I'm addicted to Lululemon... it's bad!
What are three things on your bucket list?
  1. Complete a 200 hour yoga teacher training through a retreat in Costa Rica
  2. Drive across the country while camping out at national parks
  3. Go to Burning Man Festival
How has living an active life empowered you and made you who you are today?
Living an active lifestyle has empowered me to be confident in who I am and what I want out of life.
What, in your mind, is a distinguishing feature of BARRE TECH.?
The choreography.  The way we put the moves together is unique.
Morning or evening? When is your ideal time to work out?
If the option is there, I like to work out first thing in the morning, shortly after waking up. It's a great way to jolt the body and everything else you do or eat that day is justified!
Working out after a full day of work is tough. What is your favorite easy and delicious recovery meal?
I like to keep it simple and make a PB&J accompanied by a big cold glass of almond milk.
Keep on tucking ladies!

An Inside Look
Juices and Smoothies
blog by Erika S.
I've been juicing and making my own smoothies at home for about five years using my NutriBullet, which I prefer over others because it refines all the pulp, allowing your body to absorb more nutrients.
When making a juice, my go-to ingredients are cucumber, green apple, spinach or kale, frozen pineapple chunks, and lemon. I tell my barre friends to add Chia seeds, and Aztec superfood for an added protein and energy boost. I love them!
My smoothie ingredients consist of Almond milk as a base, plus a banana, and mixed frozen berries. Adding frozen berries helps make it colder and slushy like.  I like to add Maca powder, ground up Flax seed, and Plant Protein.
Let's break it down!
Maca powder is a root and an Incan superfood.  It can fight stress, increase stamina, boost the libido, and combat fatigue.
- Flax seed is a great way to increase daily fiber and Omega-3 fatty acids.
- Plant protein in a smoothie can get all the nutrients you need for lasting energy.  I personally like the VEGA brand.
In case you are wondering where to get these fantastic ingredients, I usually go to Whole Foods for my juice and smoothie content; they are the best grocery store to find fresh and organic veggies!
